Flooding Calculation

*as per BV requirement

a) The total time (in seconds) likely to be required in order to reach and operate the valve closing is to be calculated from the formula:
                        Ta=0.72d+t+300
Where,
d= 55m between the valve control in engine room and the farthest cabin.
t= 0.75s to 30s time necessary to close the concerned valve
                        Ta=0.72d+t+300
                            =0.72 (55) + (30) +300
                            =39.6 + 30 + 300
                           =369.6 s

b)Total flooding time (in seconds) is to be calculated from the formula:

                        Te=0.275+
Where,
V= floodable volume is 178m3 (19% of the total volume where a person may transverse to the valve)
s= Area of full pipe opening
                        Area= πr2
                                 = π (0.06)2
                                                         =0.01131m2
H= 5.25m from pipe fracture to the load line
                        Te=0.275 ×
                          =0.275 ×
                            =0.275 × 6868.75m3
                           =1888 s
“Ta” is to be shorter than “Te”

Ta < Te, the flooding calculation is acceptable.
